Rabbi Zvi Hersh Friedlander
Rabbi Zvi-Hersh Friedlander is an American product of the Lisker Dynasty's seventh generation of rabbis. He grew up on Manhattan's Upper East Side, having come to the neighborhood as a very young boy. He commuted to Brooklyn's Yeshiva Torah V'daat during his high school years and subsequently went on to study for the rabbinate having received his rabbinical degree in 1995. After high school he pursued a college education from Queens College and received his B.A. in Communications.
Next in succession in the Lisker dynasty, Rabbi Friedlander carried on the duties of rabbi at the age of 17 after the passing of his father, Rabbi Abraham Friedlander. Despite his youth, he filled the position of pulpit rabbi with verve and enthusiasm while at the same time continuing his education. In 1995, upon receiving his rabbinical degree, he assumed the position of Adjunct Emergency Chaplain to the neighboring Upper East Side hospitals, a position he inherited from his father. After 1995 he continued his rabbinical studies and received a second degree in Jewish Judicial Law.
While serving in the pulpit, Rabbi Friedlander performs synagogue services, officiates at weddings and funerals and advises people who approach him with questions on religious issues as well as guidance on personal matters
In the capacity of Chaplain he visits patients in the hospital and helps facilitate and ease their stay by counseling them on religious, moral, ethical and spiritual issues.
Rabbi Friedlander holds an M.A. degree in Political Science and hopes to enlarge the scope of his duties through his involvement with community.
